Admin Log In as Any Client

This feature added in version 4.1.0.

<tip c w>This feature will only work for users that registered into the site using the built in registration process. You will not be able to login as a user that registered through the facebook connect feature.</tip>

The admin user can log in as any client in the system, for purposes of seeing what the client sees, or for performing some task for the client.

  1. Log into the admin panel. You must currently be logged into the admin panel in order for the rest of this to work, this is here as an additional security precaution. <
  2. Go to the client side login page. 1).
  3. Log in with the following credentials:
    • Username: Enter the user's username or e-mail that you wish to log in as. <
    • Password: Enter your admin password.2) <

<

  1. You will now be logged in as that user, there will be no difference from if you had logged in using the client's own password. <

Multi-Admin Addon

If using the Multi-Admin Addon, there will be a "special permission" labeled Log in as Any User (client side). Turn this permission on to allow an admin user or admin group to be able to log in as any user, using the steps listed above. The password used must match up to the admin user that is logged into the admin panel (done in step 1).

Troubleshooting

If you are having any trouble logging in as any user, try these troubleshooting tips:

Admin User's Data Out of Sync - If you are logged in as the main admin user (not a multi-admin user), on some sites we've seen the user data for the admin user get "out of sync" in the database3) which can cause the log in as any client feature to not work. To fix, in your admin panel go to Admin Tools & Settings > Change Password, and enter in your existing admin username and password. You do not need to be changing the password, you can type in the exact same one that is currently set if you desire. Submit the form, and if the user data for the admin user is "out of sync", it should now be fixed.

Non-Enterprise Edition before Geocore 7.0 - Note that in versions before GeoCore 7.0, this feature was only available Enterprise editions.

1)
If in the admin panel, the "client side" would be what you see when you click "My Site" link at the top of the admin
2)
This must be the same password you used when logging into the admin panel.
3)
Where the username in the geodesic_logins table did not match one in geodesic_userdata table.
