404's On Listing Details Pages

Listings within the system are constantly being added and removed from the system. Search engines index individual listings within their databases but that listing may expire from the system. When an expired listing's link is visited the software responds with the visual "listing page template" (listing_page.tpl within the current default design) but with a message that says that listing link is no longer good. To notify the search engines visiting that link that listing is no longer available and should be removed from their database is to have the system send a "404" to the visitor to that page. You can have the software send that "404" by checking the following setting within the software and click the save button below it:

SITE SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS > Use 404 status code

This setting also affects the page/text displayed when a category link is visited for a category that no longer exists.

No Listing Found Text

Additionally the text displayed within listing details pages when a link is visited for an expired listing is an editable message within the system. If you want to provide move information to those visiting that page or provide other options for navigating the site look to edit that text within the following admin tool page:

PAGES MANAGEMENT > BROWSING LISTINGS > LISTING DISPLAY PAGE > [EDIT TEXT]

And look for the "Not enough information to browse" text. Remember you can place html there if you like.

No Category Found Text

Additionally the text displayed within category browsing feature when a link is visited for a removed category is an editable message within the system. If you want to provide move information to those visiting that page or provide other options for navigating the site look to edit that text within the following admin tool page:

PAGES MANAGEMENT > BROWSING LISTINGS > BROWSE CATEGORIES > [EDIT TEXT]

And look for the "Not enough information to browse" text. Remember you can place html there if you like.
