Column/Field Display in Category Browsing and Modules

The columns that display while you browse columns is a feature of the software that you configure. Note that columns only display within the grid browsing view. The setting made here would simply control what displays in the gallery and list browsing views.

Highlights of the column choice in the category browsing feature:

  • You can control column display site wide.
  • You can control column display on a category by category basis through the category specific field configuration
  • Most standard fields, all site wide optional fields and individual levels of multi-level fields can be displayed as a column while browsing categories.
  • Most column headers can be clicked and the category browsing results will order by that column descending. Click again and category browsing results will be ordered by that column in ascending order. Click a third time and the browsing results returns to their default browsing order.
  • You can set description to display as it's own column or as a value displayed in the title column just below the title.
  • You can choose to display the complete or partial description
  • Category specific questions cannot be displayed as a column within the category browsing results or within any module.

Where do you manage this feature in the software?

The site wide optional field can appear as a column on the client side within the category browsing feature and within modules. The following video will cover setting those fields to display within those features.

Look to make your site wide default configuration here in the admin tool:

LISTING SETUP > FIELDS TO USE

Of course a specific field needs to be in use before it can be displayed as a column/field in a page or module.

You would set the display of columns/fields for the category browsing pages, browsing tag pages, advanced search form fields to search results page by clicking on the display in pages tab and putting a checkbox next to where you want that field to display.

You would set the display of columns/fields within all hottest, newest and non pic featured modules by clicking the display in modules tab and clicking the appropriate checkbox for the appropriate module. Rolling your mouse over the column headers will expand the title to show the full modules name.

You would set the display of columns/fields within all featured pic modules by clicking the display in pic modules tab and clicking the appropriate checkbox for the appropriate featured module. Rolling your mouse over the column headers will expand the title to show the full modules name.

You would set the display of columns/fields within all addons that display a column/field within the category browsing feature by clicking the display in addons tab and clicking the appropriate checkbox for the appropriate addon.

You can set the description to display below the title or in it's own column here:

LISTING SETUP > FIELDS TO USE > Display the Description below the Title

The length of description to display within the category browsing feature is set within this admin tool setting:

LISTING SETUP > FIELDS TO USE > Length of Description to Display

Category Specific Field Control is done through the category specific field configuration you create for a category. That is within the CATEGORIES > CATEGORY SETUP > [EDIT] (next to category to change) > [FIELDS]. You would make the same changes in the same tabs as described above for the site wide settings.

Things to know when managing column/field display

  • Set the site wide configuration to how you want to display fields in most if not all categories. You can then insert your exceptions to the site wide configuration on a category by category basis.
  • If you happen to have the length of description to display set to 0 you will only see "…." within the category browsing display feature where the description is set to display. You will need to go to LISTING SETUP > FIELDS TO USE > Length of Description to Display setting in the site wide configuration or within your category specific field configuration to set that value to other than 0
