6) User Data Fields

Highlights of this feature:

  • Contain all user specific data
  • Each field can be required individually
  • By default these fields pre-populate like listing fields within the place an auction / classified process
  • Email address, username and password are required to register a user account within the software. All other fields are optional to the software to create a user in the system
  • The user cannot delete their account in the system. Only the admin user can delete a user in the system.
  • There is a lost password routine for the clients to reset their password if needed.
  • Clients can login to the site using their username and password or their email address (attached to their account) and their password.
  • The Social Connect addon provides a way for a user to register and login using their facebook account. If you use this feature the user account fields will be filled in as best as possible from the data supplied by facebook. But you need to set that feature up separately to allow that.

The above page contains use, requirement, max length of characters allowed in each field except for the username, email and password fields.

You can set the minimum and maximum lengths for the username and password fields in the following admin tool settings:

ADMIN TOOLS & SETTINGS > SECURITY SETTINGS > GENERAL SECURITY SETTINGS > USERNAME LENGTH
ADMIN TOOLS & SETTINGS > SECURITY SETTINGS > GENERAL SECURITY SETTINGS > PASSWORD LENGTH

Each page where user fields appear have their own labels for for each field attached to a user. So you will need to go to each page to change a label if you decide to change it. Look for field labels in these pages:

Things to Remember When Setting Up User Data Fields

  • The state and country fields attached to the user are controlled by the GEOGRAPHIC SETUP > REGIONS choices in the admin tool
  • The address fields, city, state and country values of the seller automatically populate the same/like fields of the listing when they are placing a listing. They can change those values for that listing in the place a listing process if they choose
  • When a user edits the fields attached to their user account on the client side they can check to apply their changes to all their current listings
  • There is no functionality attached to the email field 2 field in the software. It is checked to make sure it doesn't equal email field 1 within the registration and user edit routines but no other feature in the software "touches" this field or makes use of it in any way. This can only be used as alternate communication by the admin
