20) Public Questions/Answer

This feature can display the questions between the logged in buyer and seller through the contact seller feature. Those questions/answers will display in the listing details template where the "public question/answer" code is placed.

Highlights of the Public Question/Answer feature:

  • uses the contact seller feature
  • the buyer asking a question must be logged in when clicking the contact seller link in the listing's details page
  • the buyer must change the "ask publicly" dropdown to "yes" for the possibility of the question becoming public.
  • the seller must respond to the question within the messaging system of their client area
  • the seller must check the "show publicly" checkbox when answering the question
  • the buyer and seller must separately agree to make the question/answer public for that listing to become publicly displayed within the listing details of the listing involved.
  • only the buyer and seller first responses within the "communication chain" are displayed within the public question/answer section of the listing. If there are more communications beyond the sellers first response they are not displayed within the listing details page.

Where do you manage the public question/answer feature in the admin tool?

You turn the feature on within the following setting of the admin tool:

LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS > Public Question/Answers to show per listing

If the above setting is "0" the feature is off. If you want the feature on set the above setting to a positive number. That number will be the max number of questions/answers that will display in the listing details page for a specific listing.

How The Public Question/Answer Feature Works

If you have this feature on and a LOGGED IN USER clicks on the contact seller feature in any listing within the system this is what appears:

The buyer must choose "yes" to agree to make their question public. Once that form is sent the seller that receives the question must go into their "my messages" admin tool to answer the question and agree also that the question and their response be made public by checking the appropriate box as shown in the following screenshot:

Within that screenshot you'll see:

  1. The seller MUST answer the question through their "my messages" tool in their client side admin tool
  2. The seller inserts their answer into the appropriate text box
  3. The seller clicks the "make public" checkbox
  4. and submits their answer/response to the site.

Once the above is done by the buyer asking the question and the seller answering the question their responses display within the appropriate section of the auction or classified ad details like so:

Things to know when managing this feature

  • Consider using the SITE SETUP > BROWSING SETTINGS > "Require Login to Use the Contact Seller Feature" setting to force login in conjunction with this feature.
  • to force all questions/answers to be public would require system template changes. Send a ticket to support to learn more.
