Inventory Item Auction

This feature was added with the v7.2.0 release and will not be included in versions previous to that.

Though this isn't specifically an auction it has been built on the auction functionality and so will still be an auction type until it grows up to become it's own type.

Highlights of this feature:

  • It basically acts as a "buy it now only" auction except that a bidder pays only the set price for each item they purchase up to the total being sold. The buyer can choose the amount of the total they wish to purchase.
  • This listing type will stay visible on the client side (live) until all items are sold or you can show the "sold sign" until the listing expiration date
  • Each purchase creates a transaction in the system to tie feedback to. This allows a feedback for the buyer to leave on the seller and a feedback for the seller to leave on the buyer for each purchase of the total made.
  • Like auctions a final fee can be charged.
  • There is no bidding with this feature.

Where to manage this feature in the Admin Tool?

Being an extension of the auction and specifically the "buy now only" extension this feature will only manifest if the client chooses the buy now only option for the auction as shown in the auction price plan item of each auction price plan

PRICE PLANS > PRICE PLANS HOME > [EDIT] (next to auction price plan) > COST SPECIFICS

as seen below:

The above is the only admin tool configuration necessary. There are additional steps clients will take when placing an auction explained below.

Client Side Changes to Initiate Inventory Item Auction

Your client would first choose to place an auction within the system. Then once in the listing details section/page of the place an auction process they would check the "buy it now only" checkbox as shown here:

and then once that is clicked the minimum/starting bid and reserve bid fields disappear and the "price(s) apply to" setting gets a new choice within it. The client would make sure "each item" is selected within the "price(s) apply to:" setting as shown here:

That will allow buyers to purchase individual quantities of the whole quantity in the auction (1 to all).

Things to Keep in Mind When Managing This Feature

  • Don't forget to setup all other "auction features" even if this is the only type you have on your site.
  • The basic difference between this and the buy now only auction is that this type allows individual items of the total to be purchased separately. The buy now only auction allows only the purchase of the whole quantity inserted into the auction.
  • The admin can setup and the seller use the seller to buyer gateway to get paid through paypal if they wish. This feature combined with the inventory item auction basically allow the seller to sell straight item quantities through the site.
