Template Sets

This page is a work in progress.

We have a website http://geocoregoodies.com, owned and operated by Geodesic Solutions, LLC. specifically for showcasing 3rd party additions such as addons or template sets (Template sets created by you!). If you have created your own template set and would like to sell or give it away, register a developer account on http://geocoregoodies.com and post a listing about your template set on the site, under the template designs category. The http://geocoregoodies.com website is powered by GeoClassAuctions Enterprise, and uses a lot of the built in features like ability for users to review template sets.

You can create your own developer storefront as well once you get a few template sets and/or addons posted on the site that you want to be able to showcase from a single location on the site.

Geocoregoodies.com Guidelines

These guidelines are for designers/developers wishing to advertise a template set on geocoregoodies.com. Below are the guidelines that your template set must adhere to, in order to advertise your addon by posting it on http://geocoregoodies.com.

Template Set Requirements:

  • Must be a "drop-in template set", meaning that just need to upload the template set in the admin panel, and enable it, and that is it. Minor changes are acceptable, like changes to the logo and such, but any changes required must be to files inside the template set itself. To be absolutely clear: template sets that require modification of "core" PHP files even when using the "latest GeoCore version", are not permitted.1) Now if your template set must be "coupled with" an addon to add more advanced design customization, that is fine, but that must be clearly stated in the description if that is the case.
  • Must provide clear way to contact the author (that's you!) for support questions. Be ready to support your template set, as Geodesic Solutions does not support 3rd party designs at all, we will always refer questions to the template set's author. If you require "paid support" or support for specific time period, be sure that is mentioned clearly in the post. Template sets that are no longer supported by the author will be removed. The only exception to this is free template sets, if you wish to provide a free design "as is" clearly state in the description that the template set is free but not supported2).
  • Must provide the link to purchase and/or download the template set.
  • Clearly define all requirements, if there are any, and which versions of the main software it is compatible with.
  • If the template set contains system, module, or addon template customizations, clearly mention that in the description3). In such cases, make sure to state your policy for future "compatibility changes" with future versions of the software. In other words, if a new version of the software requires a change in your template set, what is your policy about making such changes?
  • Enter all required fields accurately when posting the template set. If you are not sure what a particular field should contain, ask us!

These guidelines are subject to revision as needed. If any of the guidelines above are not met, we may remove your listing and attempt to contact you to re-post it with any corrections or changes needed.

Below are recommendations if you plan to post your template set on geocoregoodies.com:

Template Set Suggestions:

  • When there are new Geo updates, we recommend to read the Changelog. Any time there are changes to any template files, the changes will be listed in the changelog.
  • Keep your template set updated, to work with newer versions of the software, especially if your template set has system, module or addon templates in it. If your template set only works with older versions of the software, and for whatever reason you cannot or will not update it to work with newer version, be sure to edit the post and make it absolutely clear that it is not compatible with the new version, or simply take the post down.
  • Try to follow "best practices" wherever possible, and in your own documentation you may provide, make sure to advocate best practices. For instance, you should never have "edit geo_templates/default/…" in the instructions, since you should never edit any templates in the default template set. We recommend to link directly to user manual pages here on our site when applicable.
  • For better exposure, provide a demo link.

<tip c n>Note: If you happen to find any template sets or addons posted on http://geocoregoodies.com that do not follow the requirements above, please let us know. We do try to review every template set posted but sometimes things can slip through.</tip>

1)
If you think that a core file needs to be modified to accomplish something, contact us for options. As stated on the developers page, we can add new hooks to the software if there is not a way to accomplish something already, or can point you to an existing way to accomplish what you need if there is already a way to do what you want.
2)
We will still remove even "free" template sets that are not supported in some way by the author, if that template set becomes a "problem" meaning we get complaints about it from clients.
3)
Since template sets that have those templates customized, are less update friendly
