Use this page to indicate the types of files that you will allow your visitors to upload and attach to their listing when placing or editing their listings. Simply select "yes" or "no" for each available type within the list to allow or disallow a specific file type to be allowed to upload. At initial installation there will already be several file types in the system that we have set up for you. These are the most popular file types our clients attach to listings but by no means be the only file types you can allow your clients to attach to their listings. You have the ability to allow any files you wish by first uploading an example file through this management tool.

Any file type not within this admin tool will be rejected by the software when uploaded through the software to attach to listing.

Our software only mediates files uploaded through our software and cannot ban/allow file types ftp'ed to your site through ftp software or any other software installed on your site.

Simply click on the "add new file type" button and follow the instructions:

Give the file type a name, such as 'gif' or 'bitmap'. This is simply a name for the file type for your own reference. The name itself is not dynamic. This field/lable will only display within this admin tool.

This field is what the software uses to determine if a file is an allowed file type or not. The file extension is not used to determine the type of file uploaded, the mime type hidden within the files meta data is used to determine if the file can be uploaded.

Each file type has what is called a 'mime type'. The mime type of a file is usually included in the meta data of the file. If sent across the Internet the header usually contains this information. This information is always in the "top" of the file if you have the ability to open it. But you do not need to know the mime type to allow it to be uploaded within your site. You can have the software extract the mime type for you if you have an example file of the mime type you want to allow.

If you happen to know what the 'mime type' is for the file you are currently entering, please enter it into the field. Otherwise, click the 'Browse' button and select a file from your pc that matches the file type that you are currently setting up. The software will then attempt to detect the 'mime type' of your file. You are not actually uploading the file itself. You are simply giving the software an opportunity to identify the file's 'mime type' for you. If the 'mime type' is detected, the software will populate this field for you.

<tip c n>Please note that there can be more than one mime type to represent a file type we are familiar with. Many times different versions of files may have the same file extension but different mime types. You may have clients that complain they cannot upload a file type that is allowed by your configuration. When this happens the mime type they are trying to upload is not allowed. You can get a copy of the file that client is trying to upload and set it up as an allowed file type.</tip>

From the main "Allowed Uploads" page, you can choose to set up a variety of allows uploads, but then set each to "accepted" or not. Any file

Browsers do not have the ability to represent many file types directly in the software which is when an icon is used to represent that file type within the display of the software. Internet browsers cannot represent files like pdf, doc, mpg,…etc directly within the webpage. So in displaying these file types within the listing details and category browsing pages of the software an icon will be displayed that you setup in this field. The client browsing the site can then click the icon and the file will be downloaded to them.

Insert the file extension for your file (gif, tif, bmp, etc). DO NOT include the 'dot' before the extension. In other words, enter 'letters only' into this box.

<tip c n> NOTE: Please note that there are multiple forms of .jpg images with different mime-types and if one of your customers is having trouble uploading an image, have them send one of their images to you so that you can set up an additional .jpg file type in this menu. (In other words, you can have multiple .jpg file types entered into this menu.) From that point forward, that customer, and any other customers attempting to upload an image of the same mime-type, will be allowed to.</tip>
