Standard Auction

Highlights of Standard Auctions:

This support wiki article describes how standard auction bidding works in the software.

Where Do You Manage Auctions in the Software Admin Tool?

Site wide auction configurations are managed in the "Auction Specific Settings" section of the following admin tool page:

LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS

There are numerous configurations in the above admin tool page to affect the standard auction.

Price plan specific auction configurations are set within the COST SPECIFICS page of the auction price plan admin tool.

You can enable the "buy now" option for standard auctions per price plan within the "auction" plan item of the COST SPECIFICS admin tool. Within that same tool you can force all standard auctions to be "buy now only" auctions.

LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS > Proxy Bidding

With that setting you can allow proxy bidding (default setting). You can allow straight bidding until the reserve is met where proxy bidding will then take effect. You can also set the software to use straight bidding only

LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS > Allow Bidding against Self

This setting allows the bidder to raise their own bid even if they are the current high bidder. By default this is set to "no". Allowing this can allow your bidders to "hunt reserve prices" and stop bidding once they find one. Minimum bid increments apply though.

LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS > Display "Buy Now" Price as a Choice

If you allow the buy now choice and the seller inserted a buy now price that price stays clickable/usable in the auction details page until the first bid Is received. Changing this value to "until reserve met" will allow the buy now price to stay alive even after a bid has been received but make that bid link disappear as a bid option when the current bid exceeds the reserve price set by the seller.

You would control how long the buy now button stays available in the standard auction after starting with the following admin tool setting:

LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS > Display "Buy Now" Price as a Choice

You can make the buy now button disappear after the first bid on the auction or stay until the reserve for that auction had been met. Of course clicking the buy now button before either of those conditions closes the auction immediately.
